Day 3 - Paraguay / Le Chaco

Chaco, unspoilt nature

Paraguay - Chaco - aigrette

You will take the Transchaco, a mix of paved road and dusty tracks, that will take you to the west of the Paraguay in the direction of Chaco, a huge area of ??247,000 km² where geographical and climatic factors have contributed to the impressive diversity of fauna and flora in the region, creating a particular ecosystem. The wet Chaco is characterized by palms karanda’y and low forest, an area bordered by two major rivers, the Pilcomayo and the Paraguay. In the Chaco region (the second forest area in South America after the Amazon) are many natural parks and protected areas for the conservation of some endangered species. Paraguay is known for its variety of birds, 350 species are listed. Herons, macaws, moorhens and ostriches ñandú coexist with armadillos and giant anteaters, coatis, pumas, tapirs and jaguars. Reptiles complement the exotic wildlife of the country: caimans, iguanas and snakes (anacondas and boa constrictors).
Night at the hacienda Santa Clara.

Day 4 - Paraguay / Le Chaco

Dry Chaco

Paraguay - Guarani - Kaiowa

Morning tour of the hacienda to discover activities and hiking trails. Then direction to Filadelfia in the dry Chaco, sandy soil and few rivers. Here, the Mennonite colonies are large and have almost the monopoly on the country’s dairy industry. Deep in the Chaco, indigenous peoples, as the Ayoreo and Enxet, fight to keep their ancestral lands, the Guarani are in search of the path of the Land without Evil, indestructible one, land of the gods and ancestors where corn grows by itself and where we do not die. Go to the Chaco is also a human experience.
Night in Filadelfia.

Day 5 - Paraguay / Concepción

Wet Chaco

Paraguay - chaco humide

Back to Pozo Colorado before turning on the Nanawa bridge and reach Concepción at the edge of the river  Paraguay.
Night in Concepción.

Day 6 - Paraguay / Caacupé

Horses ranch

Paraguay - estancia Aventura

Back to the province’s capital and installation in a ranch, the horses here are the great passion of the owners, they will share it with you during a sunset on pastures. At Caacupé time passes slowly,  except every year on December 8th, when hundreds of thousands of people come – on foot, on horseback or in a cart drawn by oxento – to pray at the shrine of Caacupé . They thank the Virgin Blue for a birth, a cure or a good harvest. This pilgrimage is the most impressive in the country!
Night at estancia Aventura.

Day 7 - Paraguay / Argentine / Puerto Iguazú

Itaipu Dam

Paraguay -Iguazu - Barrage Itaipu pg

Road to Ciudad del Este, which is nothing special but  a free zone or a commercial platform giant, noisy and unattractive on the banks of the Paraná River, you will bypass. Visit Itaipu dam classified by the American Society of Civil Engineers as one of the seven wonders of the world. Road to Puerto Iguazú, Argentina, take a picture at the Three Borders monument (three countries Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay and two Iguazú and Paraná rivers meet) and installation in a charming lodge buried under vegetation of Paraná, with views of the jungle from the balcony of your room and a beautiful three-tiered pool to cool off after a long day’s drive.

Day 8 - Argentine / Puerto Iguazú

Iguazu Falls in Argentina

Argentine - Chutes Iguazú

Change of scene, and road to Encarnación. Depending on time and weather and conditions  imposed by the dam, boat tour to waterfalls Mocona,  ten meters high when the river is low, they form along the Uruguay River up to 2 kms. Then visit the Jesuit mission of San Ignacio Mini, the region has about thirty, this one  is classified as World Heritage by UNESCO, it has preserved beautiful remains. At Posadas, crossing the bridge over the Paraná, you will find yourself again in Paraguay, at Encarnación, holiday resort of  the Paraguayans. Installation in a warm boutique hotel which defined itself as a piece of Paris in Encarnación. For those who want to be closer to the falls Mocona, we recommend a night at the beautiful Yucuma Lodge in the Yaboti Biosphere Reserve.
Night at hotel Milord.

Day 11 - Paraguay / Encarnación

Jesuit Missions of the Guaraní

Paraguay - Itapua - Mission- Jésuite

Away from the main tourist routes, you will probably be the only one  among the ruins of the Jesuit missions of Santisima Trinidad de Paraná (founded in 1706) and that of Jesus of Tavarangüe (1685); the ruins are the color of the earth, red, and are swallowed by the vegetation in place, the silence is total. We recommend the light and sound show on the ruins of Trinidad, a show that takes place during our summer.
Night at hotel Milord.
