Day 1 - Nicaragua / Managua

Arrival in Nicaragua – Managua

Nicaragua - Managua - hotel-Robles

Reception upon arrival in Managua the capital of Nicaragua. Depending on your arrival time, take the pulse of the city at  Roberto Huembes market and tour through the historic center and the National Theatre Ruben Dario.

Day 2 - Nicaragua / Bastilla

Briefing in english by a local assistance and delivery of your rented car type 4×4. Road to the northern mountains of Nicaragua, up to 1200 m, and installation in La Bastilla Ecolodge, a preserved nature in the middle of a forest, tropical birds and fincas of coffee. The lodge is responsible for social and educational program for young students of the region and is Rainforest Alliance Certified. Immersion in the coffee of  Nicaragua!

Day 4 - Nicaragua / León

Cigars of Esteli and geysers of San Jacinto

Nicaragua - San Jacinto -Geysers

Road to Esteli, visit (with a local english speaking guide) of a cigar factory, some are among the best in the world. Stop at the smoking geysers of San Jacinto told by the children of the town. Continue until León, at the hotel La Perla, charming neoclassical hotel or at the beautiful El Convento hotel, both located in the historic center of the city.

Day 5 - Nicaragua / León

Day with an english speaking guide. Arrival at Cerro Negro volcano by a track chaotic, to climb one of the youngest volcanoes in the world it lasts about an hour, the view up there is great, for those who wish we can organize a descent by surf, the « ash boarding » is included! Take free time in León to walk around, see the Metropolitan Cathedral, the largest cathedral in Central America. Its imposing architecture is representative of religious art from the mid 17th century.

Day 6 - Nicaragua / golfe de Fonseca

Turtles at Venado Island and Northen volcanoes

With a local english speaking guide, departure by boat from the fishing village Poneyola on the Pacific coast to get, in front, at Juan Venado island. On this strip of land and in the mangroves hide monkeys, birds, crocodiles, and from August to December, the opportunity to observe the spawning of two species of sea turtles; lobster lunch possible on the Pacific. Then, departure to the Gulf of Fonseca, in the region of Chinandega. Installation in a family house in the heart of a private reserve, the Hato Nuevo. Free time to stroll along the many trails that surround the property, beautiful flora of the tropical dry forest habitat of spider monkeys, deer, iguanas and many birds including the scarlet macaw and migratory waterfowl.

Day 7 - Nicaragua / golfe de Fonseca

Horseback riding or climbing the volcano Cosigüina

Since the lodge, no mass tourism, excursions are organized such a nice horse ride to a viewpoint with stunning views of Volcano Cosigüina’s natural reserve and Gulf of Fonseca’s islands, or a climbing to the volcano Cosigüina the « vigil of the Pacific », 900 m altitude. Following a trail path, you suddenly arrive at the edge of the crater with steep walls of about 2 km in diameter and 200 m deep at the bottom of which lie the calm waters of the lagoon emerald inaccessible. On the one hand this yawning abyss, on the other the immensity of the ocean, the bay and the volcanoes of El Salvador and Honduras looming on the horizon: the show is total. On the way back from the volcano, you can take a dip at the vast sandy beach of Mechapa.

Day 8 - Nicaragua / Granada

Back to León, and drive to the beautiful colonial city of Granada. Depending on the time available, stop at Laguna de Apoyo  for a relaxing swim in its warm waters. In Granada, install at the hotel Plaza Colón in the heart of the historical center in front of the Parque Central and enjoy its pleasant pool after the route of the day o install at the nice hotel La Bocona. Granada is a living testimony of a Spanish city in Latin America from the 17th century and, as Antigua in Guatemala, is considered a colonial jewel of Central America. In the evening, to get you into the atmosphere of the city, we recommend a carriage ride.

Day 9 - Nicaragua / Granada

To spend a day out of time, in direct contact with nature, go for a boat or kayak ride among the 350 islands of the archipelago Las Isletas, seed of  land planted in Lake Nicaragua following the explosion of Mombacho Volcano. In this tropical setting, observation of a multitude of waterfowl. Landing on Zopango « Pirate Island », a small corner of paradise, let yourself rock in a colorful hammock sipping a fresh fruit juice before taking a dip in the warm waters of the lake or try a fishing traditional with the help of a neighbor islander! For those who want to extend the experience of Las Isletas,  we can provide a night at Jicaro Lodge, a lodge full of charm.

Day 10 - Nicaragua / Granada

Adventure at Volcano Mombacho: using a harness, pulleys and cables suspended between trees at 30 m above ground and 17 platforms, you glide from one tree to another, admiring the view and coffee plantations. Visit the nature reserve, at the top of the summit of the volcano Mombacho, take a path to discover one of the craters, more than 700 species of plants and trees are counted in the reserve. At the top is a science laboratory that can be visited.

Day 11 - Nicaragua / Granada

By car road to Masaya Volcano National Park, a huge park which 54 km² hidden in its caldeira basaltic more than five volcanoes and a dozen volcanic edifices! The last born, the twin volcanoes Nindiri and Masaya, include multiple craters, one of them, the crater Santiago, gives off vapors of sulfuric gas, the incandescent la boca del Infierno is only visible at night;  from the extinct crater of San Fernando you will apreciate  beautiful views of the valley and the Masaya National Park covered by a multitude of flowers in summer. Few green parrots and other tropical birds will be certainly visible. We suggest you to visit the Visitors Center to better understand the geology and volcanoes. Then, free time to stroll around the picturesque market of Masaya and well stocked craft stalls.

Day 12 - Nicaragua / île d’Ometepe

The Ometepe Island

Road up to San Jorge to catch the ferry that crosses one part of Lake Nicaragua before arriving at the port of Moyogalpa on the island of Ometepe. Route to San Juan de la Isla to sit in this hacienda typical of Nicaragua and enjoy its location and privileged environment. Afternoon free to swim in the warm waters of the lake, relax in a hammock and enjoy a unique panorama.

Day 13 - Nicaragua / île d'Ometepe

Today why not plan to climb Maderas volcano? Other options: horseback riding, discovering petroglyphs, coffee and fruit trees, hiking the volcano Maderas, Chaco Verde and Altagracia town …

Day 14 - Nicaragua / El Astillero

Back to Moyogalpa port to take the ferry to San Jorge. Route to the fishing village of El Astillero. On Chacocente beaches and Natural Reserve La Flor, parade, between July and December, more than 50,000 turtles and four species: Paslama, Tora, Torita and Carey, to lay their eggs! A unique place in the world, only nine other beaches in the world share this privilege. Overlooking Pacific Ocean, 300 meters from a white sandy beach, bathed in a green space, installation in one of the four bungalows at Las Plumerias Lodge & Surf. For those who wish you can surf good waves. Or stay at hotel Victoriano at San Juan del Sur.

Days 15 to 18

Sunbathing on the Pacific coast or the Caribbean coast?

Two options are available:

– Departure by car to the beaches of San Juan del Sur, on the Pacific coast in a magical place. You settle into one of the finest ecotourism lodges in the country. Morgan’s Rock and its 15 bungalows ecological luxury, with an area of ??105 m², overlooking the Pacific Ocean in the heart of a huge nature reserve. An exceptional place to finish your trip in Nicaragua with the possibility of big game fishing with local fishermen, horseback riding or walking in the middle of lush tropical precious woods, sea kayaking and boating in the estuary, observing howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, iguanas, turtles and many birds.

– Flight from Managua (end of your rent car) to the Caribbean beaches and Corn Islands … Here the scenery changes, white sandy beaches to infinity, turquoise water, colorful fish, palm trees and reggae in your ears. No cars in Little Island, the wild coast, no frills. Stay in a Tahitian style bungalow (Master Suite Crusoe) at Little Corn Beach & Bungalow and enjoy nices dives, fresh lobsters, paddle and kayak rides, lovely sunsets, and welcoming happy people.
