To complete your knowledge of the Mayan world, do not miss the new museum, Museo del Gran Mundo Maya, and that on Mexican folk art visit the Museo de Arte Popular in a beautiful historic house. Thursday evening the Santa Lucia park and the Municipal Palace, Corazon de Merida, come alive with folk performances and outdoor concerts that extend to the weekend, enjoy the famous « botanas » and all the specialties of the tasty Mexican cuisine…

At the exit of Merida, stop at the market of fruits and vegetables of Umán for a slice of sensory life. Go on the haciendas and monasteries road to arrive at the Mayan archaeological site of Uxmal, Pyramid of the Magician and the elaborately carved façades of the Nunnery Quadrangle are to see. Then take time to visit other nearby attractions including Labná and its delicate « triumphal arch” Puuc style also. Along the way, stop in typical and rarely visited villages, Ticul known for its red pottery or Mani and its beautiful monastery. Tixkokob’s hammocks and road back to the Caribbean
Before returning to Valladolid ‘s highway and its bifurcation to the Caribbean, take the back roads to pueblo Tixkokob for the purchase of an hammock in fiber sisal, this agave was the wealth of the region in the 17th and 18th centuries and haciendas where you stayed in are the perfect example. If you do not stopped on the way in, continue to Izamal and its Convent of St. Anthony of Padua, built on the ruins of an ancient Mayan city. Then route to the port of Chiquila where you leave your car in the parking. Every two hours, a shuttle boat takes you, in less than half an hour, to Hollboax island. Here, all is quiet, few or no cars (mostly golf carts), a blue sea, white sand, swaying palms and small charming posadas, you are in the nature reserve of Yum Balam, in the Mexican Caribbean.
